The Caldera Project – A New Approach

Discovery Harbour intends to further explore the Caldera Project using the low sulphidation epithermal gold model. There is extensive historical data on the property, including work done by 11 different companies, 142 drill holes, with an average length of 113m and an average vertical depth of less than 100m, 1365 soil samples and 804 rock-chip samples. However, all those previous explorers were focused on finding a near-surface, open pit-type deposit. They achieved some good results, but in the low sulphidation epithermal gold model, significant mineralisation is not expected until 150m depth, to as deep as 450m.

Using the low sulphidation epithermal gold model Discovery Harbour has completed a number of positive steps. It recently completed a mapping program which successfully delineated a number of structures and alteration patterns. Samples were analyzed using a spectrometer, confirming that the clay alteration minerals (primarily illite) are low temperature products characteristic of the distal and shallow levels of a low sulphidation epithermal gold system.

The historical results on the Caldera Project include rock-chip samples as high as 193 g/t Au, soil samples as high as 1.3 g/t, and drill results such as 25 ft of 8.33 g/t Au and 10 ft of 37.92 g/t Au. As these were all at vertical depths of less than 100m, management believes the Caldera Project has tremendous potential to be a significant low sulphidation epithermal gold deposit. The WNW trending strike length appears to extend for at least 6.5km, hosting a series of gold anomalies accompanied by strong alteration and related pathfinder elements.

It is important to note that the Caldera Project lies in a fertile gold region, at the intersection of the Walker Lane and Northumberland Gold Belts. It is located only 33km from Kinross Gold’s Round Mountain Mine which, produced 378,000 in 2015 alone and is a deposit of at least 16 million ounces of gold.

Based on the review of the historical Caldera Project data in the context of a low sulphidation epithermal gold system, the results of its recent mapping program, and its location in a prolific gold area, Discovery Harbour believes the Caldera Project has very encouraging potential to host a significant gold deposit.
